Remnant Sharing the Gospel

Throughout time, God has ensured there would be a remnant sharing the gospel. This has not been easy. People, with the help and prodding of Satan, have been trying to stop the fulfillment of the gospel for millennia. This war started in the Garden of Eden, and it's been patiently waged since then. In this article, I’m going to hit the highlights of this ruthless, relentless attack. The war on people, Christ, and the gospel that continues today, and will not end until the final judgement. Fortunately, there will always be a remnant sharing the gospel.
Corruption of Humanity through Adam
Eve was deceived by Satan, and her husband did nothing about it, so since he is the head of the household, the result of the deception became his fault. The result is the fall of humanity, Earth, and our universe. Their subsequent offspring had to carry the knowledge and worship of Yahweh, but few did. Only Noah, his wife, three of his sons, and their wives continued in the faith. As for the rest of humanity, “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5
Abraham’s Family Whittled Down to a Remnant
During a drought, Abraham’s family was forced to enter Egypt. Joseph was in charge, and so things went well for the Hebrews. They were fruitful and multiplied, but unfortunately, they also assimilated into Egyptian society. Most of them worshipped Egyptian gods. When Moses killed an Egyptian taskmaster and was banished, God led him to Midian. Specifically, to the Priest of Midian, Jethro. The Midianites were the remnant that still worshipped Yahweh. Jethro reintroduced Moses to Yahweh worship for 40 years, and then God (Yahweh) sent Moses back to Egypt. Apparently, the Israelites remembered God when they became slaves and started praying for help. They were a fickle bunch.

The exodus was a convoluted affair. A new Pharaoh wannabe arose in the south and went north to take over. Charioteers protected the current Pharaoh from the tribe of Ephrim. According to Jewish tradition, the Ephraimites thought they were fulfilling prophecy and abandoned Egypt, heading to the promised land. This departure was a premature, unauthorized exodus 30 years before the main Exodus. They left on their own, were met by Philistines, and were slaughtered, their bones scattered, leading God to detour the main Israelite route to avoid this tragic scene—the valley of dry bones, from Ezekiel 37:1-14. Egypt was abandoned and left almost defenseless by the Ephraimites. When the new Pharaoh took over, he feared the vast number of Hebrews, so he enslaved them to control them.
So, life in Egypt was wonderful for about 400 years. Then the new Pharaoh ordered the killing of all newborn Israelites, and Moses escaped with help from his mother and sister, and then the Israelites became slaves for about 30 years. “They [Egyptians] made their [Israelites] lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.” Exodus 1:14.
The appointed exodus started when Moses returned to Egypt. They left Egypt and complained, rebelled, complained some more, and during this time, they were relearning Yahweh worship. It never made sense to me that Arron, Moses’ brother, was so easily persuaded to make a golden calf until I learned this history. He was a maker of Egyptian idols for most of his life. Yahweh worship was new to him, so that’s also why he was quickly forgiven for his transgression. The forty years in the desert were not only punishment for their various transgressions, but a time of relearning who God is. They, along with the Kenites from Midian, became the remnant. The Kenites were a nomadic, metalworking tribe from Midian, known for their friendly ties with Israel, notably through Moses' father-in-law, Jethro (a Kenite priest of the Midianites). Judges 1:16
During the time of the Judges and Kings, Israel was plagued by the worship of other gods, but a remnant always remained. Good kings would arise who reintroduced Yahweh worship, and the Prophets of God helped. During the time of Elijah, 1,000 priests of Yahweh were preserved. During the reign of King Hezekiah, the scrolls were discovered, and he reintroduced Yahweh worship. During the Babylonian exile, a remnant was saved, and during the Roman occupation of Israel, the worship of Yahweh continued. King Herod tried to stop the prophecy of the birth of Jesus by ordering the death of all male children two years old or younger. All of these attempts to stop the worship of Yahweh failed. There is always a remnant of believers.
The Destruction of the Temple and Other Diversions
The destruction of the Temple in 70AD stopped the sacrificial offering practice of the Jews, but didn’t stop their worship. Unfortunately, they failed to acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, so the Christians became the remnant. The continuing deception and attempts to stop the gospel are many. Jesus was tempted by Satan, and Satan failed. Jesus died (a presumed victory for Satan), but Jesus rose again on the third day in victory. The Apostles spread the gospel until they were killed or died. The Catholic Church obfuscated the Christian religion, and then came the breakup of the Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox, followed by the Reformation. A remnant always remains to course correct.
Growing Apostacy
The growing apostasy in the church, coupled with biblical illiteracy, is the latest attack on Yahweh worship or the worship of Jesus as our Lord, Savior, and God. This apostasy and biblical illiteracy have led to false teachers and prophets with ridiculous interpretations of scripture. This apostasy would also include other religions and the pseudo-Christian cults that teach unbiblical lies, including Islam, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and others. These unorthodox cults and beliefs reduce the number of true Christians, but there will always be a remnant of true believers who glean their beliefs from the Bible. This Bible-knowing, Bible-believing, and Bible-obedient remnant continues sharing the gospel.
The Remnant Sharing the Gospel
Those of us who read, study, and obey the Protestant Bible as the Word of God are the remnant who are sharing the Gospel. The rest are noise and distraction perpetrated by evil men and women, and Satan. Humanity thinks, “What can I get out of this?” Satan thinks, “How can I stop the inevitable?” We, as the remnant, must think, “How can I praise, honor, and obey God, and share the gospel as written within the pages of scripture?”
The Remnant must read and study the Word of God. They must glean their doctrine and theology from the Word of God alone. They must understand the Word of God as a single, continuous narrative that explains God’s love for us, His intercession for us, and His instructions for how we should live. Those who do things their way will perish, and those who do things God’s way will be blessed and have eternal life. God’s remnant will continue regardless of the decisions of humankind, but wouldn’t it be wonderful to be one of the remnants? I know I am, and you can know it too.
