“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)
The Bible is the ultimate written authority – anywhere. I know that due to in-depth study of the origin of the Bible that has proven its authenticity beyond any reasonable doubt. Unfortunately, many Christians put more stock in sinful, arrant, fallible humans. They throng to their TV preachers and evangelists, many of which are little more than Humanist self-help gurus. There are some notable exceptions to that rule of TV preachers, like Charles Stanley, but many TV preachers stand on their own authority, not the Word of God. Everything we hear must be reconciled back to scripture, but how can you know if the preacher is standing on Biblical author or his own? How do you make the distinction between the Word and humanist dribble? Well, there is only one way – read, study and understand the Bible.
Consequences of not knowing what the Bible says:
Easily duped by flashy biblical sounding Humanist dribble.
Easily mislead to believe non-biblical doctrine.
Lead by Satan and his minions’ verses God and His Word.
Failure to follow the teachings of the Bible and our Lord Jesus.
Failure to discern good from evil, right from wrong.
Lack of joy and gratefulness in the abundance that you have.
…and I could continue with many more consequences…
Do not let people tell you what to think or do. People are fallible, they make mistakes and they sin by their very nature. Only the Word of God is inspired, inerrant and infallible. You need to put your trust in the Bible and “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15) The only way to avoid watered-down Christianity and its dire consequences is to read study and know what the Bible says.
I pray that each of you never take the word of a human over the Word of God, and that you study scripture so that you can truly discern good from evil, right from wrong. May God richly bless each student of scripture with wisdom, discernment and joy in all that God provides. Amen!
