Paranormal & Occult
When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.” Deuteronomy 18:9-12. Also see Galatians 5:20
The Sunday school lesson I taught today was from the Lifeway quarterly, Bible Studies for Life (Fall 2017). It was titled, The Paranormal. I enjoyed teaching it, because it is a sorely needed lesson that is rarely taught. The paranormal and occult is around us all the time. It permeates our lives through TV, video, DVD, Blue Ray, books, etc. It’s blown off as entertainment, but it is a real problem and part of Satan’s plan to desensitize us to its evil and deceive us. So, if it’s doing what I’m suggesting – How? and Why?
In Deuteronomy the Bible tells us these Occult practices and paranormal activities are an abomination to God. Galatians again speaks of witchcraft among other sinful practices. They are not to be called upon or practiced, specifically by Israelites, but also Christians. I’ve already mentioned the “How” through the overload of media we are exposed to daily. The “Why” I alluded to, but let me elaborate.
Satan is the master deceiver, liar and manipulator on earth. He rules a realm of darkness and evil that touches almost everything. Part of his lie is to make the paranormal and occult normal for us. We know that God condemns it, but our fascination with all things supernatural makes us curious. It especially affects our children and grandchildren. They are more gullible and susceptible to these influences and are more likely to experiment with them.
We must tell our children and grandchildren that there are no ghosts, no aliens, and you can’t talk to great grandma through a medium or necromancer. There are only two spiritual realms – the realm of God and His Angels and the realm of Satan and his demons. If you think you saw an alien, you actually saw a demon. If you think you saw a ghost, you actually saw a demon. If you went to a psychic and talked to your Aunt Susie, you were speaking with a demon. Your kids and grandchildren need to be aware of this deception by Satan, so they can defend themselves from the deception.
The only true defense from these deceptions and evil practices is to be saved by God’s grace and to immerse yourself in the Word of God. If you don’t know what God says about a subject, you can’t defend yourself. Immerse yourself in the Word of God – the Bible. Shun all paranormal and occult practices and patronage. Demons speak with psychics, not your loved ones, because when you die, you either instantly go to heaven or to hell. There is no holding place, no way station, no lingering on earth. Please make sure you end up in heaven.
Trust God’s spiritual realm, trust His Holy Word, and accept Christ as your Lord and Savior. Repent of your sins and depart from them. Reject all things occult and run from them, because once you open the door to them, that door can be very difficult to close. As a matter of fact, Jesus is the only one that can close that door to the dark side. Accept Him today!
