Monkeying around with the Truth

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” 2 Peter 3:3-4

Jesus is coming soon, without regard for what the scoffers think. The 100 percent accuracy of Biblical prophecy attests to that fact. It is true, and beyond any doubt that the Bible is factual and accurate. If you don’t believe that last statement, then you haven’t done your research.

On July 10, 1925 the so called Monkey Trial got started. It was also called the Scopes Trial. John Scopes was a school teacher that broke Tennessee state law by teaching evolution. At that time teaching evolution was a misdemeanor punishable by a fine. Christian fundamentalist, William Jennings Bryan, a three-time Democratic presidential candidate volunteered to act as prosecuting attorney, while the ACLU acquired eminent attorney Clarence Darrow as the attorney for the defense.

Long story short, Scopes was found guilty and fined $100 for teaching his students the lie of the theory of evolution. The problem is, during the trial the Bible and Christianity was put into question. Darrow shredded William Bryan on the stand, because Bryan was not prepared. He was not, “…ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you [him] with meekness and fear:” 1 Peter 3:15 Bryan trusted that all logical people believed the Bible and wouldn’t dare question it. He was wrong. Many people will not believe unless you convince them. Many Christians today take the Bible at face value. They simply believe; which is very admirable, because “…blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” John 20:29 The problem is that most people require proof, and unfortunately, some that require truth will reject the truth even if the evidence is overwhelming, because it does not fit the paradigm of their worldview.

Christians must always be prepared to answer any and all questions that a non-Christian might ask. If you are not prepared with answers, then you may end up like poor William Bryan, humiliated and disgraced. This courtroom win ended up humiliating William Bryan and opened the floodgates for further testing of these laws. The laws were repealed and now the opposite is true: now it’s against the law (in most states) to teach Biblical creation. The lie known as the theory of evolution is now being taught in schools as if it were true, even though evolution (from inorganic materials to higher life forms) is physically impossible. We allow this lie to perpetuate due to our lack of preparation and failure to attest to the accuracy and perfect credibility of the Bible.

In order to get people saved today, you must be ready to answer all of their questions. And no, the answer is not, “The Bible says it, so I believe it.” That statement works great for Christians and I agree with it, but it means nothing to non-Christians. We must, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 We must be prepared!
