Happy Mother’s Day!

“And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.” (Genesis 3:20)

Eve was the original mother – the mother of all the people that have ever existed on Earth. She started out perfect, made by God Himself. She was completely unique and flawless. She made a mistake, by allowing Satan to beguile her into eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge, but even after that sin, she was special and distinctive. Eve was an exceptional creation of God, and would become the mother of every human ever born.

Eve and her husband Adam were driven out of the Garden of Eden, because they disobeyed God – their creator. They lost the right to an easy life, and from that moment on had to labor for everything they had. Eve also had to suffer in child birth, “Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children…” Genesis 3:16. Even with all these adversities, with God’s guidance, they survived and thrived. Eve gave birth to sons and daughters – according to Hebrew tradition 33 sons and 23 daughters. She was truly amazing.

Mothers in general are amazing. Mothers give birth to new generations, they rise, train, nurse, care for, feed, bathe and nurture those new generations. Mothers clean, cook and organize the household. Many mothers even maintain employment in full or part time jobs in addition to all that I’ve mentioned. In developing countries they are often laboriously engaged in gathering food and water for their household. Mothers are truly an amazing gift from God. Those of us that still have our mothers are truly blessed. Those that no longer have their mothers were blessed while their mothers were with them, and blessed by the fond and cherish memories of their mothers.

On this Mother’s Day, I lift up praise and honor to the Lord for blessing us with the amazing and wonderful people we call mothers. I honor all mothers, and thank God for my mother. Thank you Mom, for being my mother, friend, nurse, teacher and advisor – I Love You!
